What the king commanded her to do: COME AND DISPLAY HER BEAUTY TO THE PEOPLE
The decree that removed her: LET HER ROYAL POSITION BE GIVEN TO ANOTHER
The subject was queen to Ahasuerus, king of Persia, who reigned over a hundred and twenty-seven provinces from India to Cush. In the third year of his reign he held a great feast for his officials and people.
On the seventh day, when the king's heart was merry with wine, he commanded his eunuchs to bring the subject before the assembly wearing her royal crown, to display her beauty, for she was lovely to look upon.
But the subject refused to come at the king's command. The king was furious, and his anger burned within him.
His counselors warned that her refusal would embolden all the women of the empire to despise their husbands, and advised that a royal decree be issued, unchangeable, removing her from her place and giving it to another better than she.
So the subject was set aside, and in time a search was made for a new queen, and Esther the Jewess was chosen, through whom the LORD would preserve His people. Thus the removal of the one prepared the way for the other.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- God's hidden providence works even through the failures of a pagan court.
- The removal of one can be the appointed opening for another's calling.
- No throne is so secure that pride and wrath cannot topple it.
