What enraged him beyond measure: MORDECAI WOULD NOT BOW OR PAY HIM HOMAGE
The end of the gallows he raised: HE WAS HANGED UPON IT HIMSELF
The subject was advanced by King Ahasuerus above all the princes, and all bowed before him. But Mordecai the Jew would not bow, and the subject was filled with fury.
Learning that Mordecai was a Jew, he was not content to strike one man, but sought to destroy all the Jews throughout the empire. He cast the lot, called Pur, to fix the day, and paid the king for a decree to annihilate them.
So enraged was he at Mordecai that he built a gallows fifty cubits high on which to hang him, and went to ask the king's leave the very night the king could not sleep.
That night the king was reminded that Mordecai had once saved his life, and the subject was made to lead Mordecai in honor through the city, robed and on the royal horse, proclaiming the king's favor upon the man he hated.
At Queen Esther's banquet she revealed the plot and named the subject as the enemy. The king rose in wrath, and by a servant's word the gallows he had built for Mordecai was pointed out, and the subject was hanged upon it, and the wrath of the king abated.
