What his strength led him to do: ENTERED THE TEMPLE TO BURN INCENSE
What broke out on his forehead there: LEPROSY, WHILE THE PRIESTS WITHSTOOD HIM
The subject, also called Azariah, became king of Judah at sixteen and reigned fifty-two years. As long as he sought the LORD in the days of Zechariah the seer, God made him prosper.
He warred successfully against the Philistines and Arabians, built towers and cisterns, loved the soil, equipped a great army with new engines of war, and his fame spread far, for he was marvelously helped until he was strong.
But when he was strong, he grew proud to his destruction. He entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense, a work reserved for the priests alone.
Azariah the priest and eighty brave priests withstood him, telling him to leave, for it was not for him but for the consecrated sons of Aaron. The subject grew angry, censer in hand, and while he raged leprosy broke out on his forehead.
They hurried him out, and he himself was eager to leave, for the LORD had struck him. He was a leper to the day of his death, living in a separate house, cut off from the temple, while his son governed. It was in the year of his death that Isaiah saw the Lord high and lifted up.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- Strength and success can breed the pride that brings a person down.
- No greatness gives us license to trespass on what God has reserved.
- The Lord alone is high and lifted up when earthly kings pass away.
