Terms of his demand for proof: THE NAIL MARKS AND THE SIDE
Reach of his later mission: AS FAR AS INDIA (TRADITION)
The subject, called the Twin, was one of the twelve. When Jesus resolved to return to Judea despite danger, it was the subject who said, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
At the last supper, the subject asked how they could know the way, prompting the answer, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Absent when the risen Christ first appeared, the subject refused to believe unless he could see the nail marks and place his hand in the wounded side. For a week he held to his doubt.
Christ appeared again and invited the subject to touch the wounds. The subject answered, My Lord and my God. Jesus said, Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.
The subject went out to bear witness. By tradition he carried the gospel as far as India and was martyred there.
