What he confessed about his own sentence: WE ARE PUNISHED JUSTLY, THIS MAN DID NOTHING
The Lord's answer to his plea: TODAY YOU WILL BE WITH ME IN PARADISE
The subject was one of two criminals crucified beside Jesus. At first both reviled Him, but one came to see the truth as he hung dying.
When the other mocked, saying, Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us, the subject rebuked him, asking whether he did not fear God, since they were under the same sentence.
He confessed that they were justly condemned, receiving the due reward of their deeds, but that this man had done nothing wrong.
Then he turned to Jesus and said, Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom, a startling confession of faith in a King who was Himself being put to death.
Jesus answered, Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise. So at the eleventh hour, with no deeds to offer and no time to prove himself, the subject was saved by faith alone, and entered Paradise that very day.
