The subject, from the town of Magdala, had been delivered by Jesus from seven demons. She followed him and, with other women, provided for the ministry out of her own means.
The subject stood near the cross when most had fled, and watched where the body was laid. She came to the tomb early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark.
Finding the stone rolled away and the tomb empty, she ran to tell Peter and John. Returning, she wept, supposing the body had been taken, and did not recognize the man she took to be the gardener.
He spoke her name, Mary, and she knew him. She was sent to tell the others, becoming the first witness of the resurrection and the first to announce, I have seen the Lord.
The subject is last named among the faithful women at the empty tomb. No account of her later years is preserved in the record.
