What his fathers served beyond the River: OTHER GODS, SAYS JOSHUA
Where his journey toward Canaan ended: HARAN, AND THERE HE DIED
The subject was the son of Nahor and the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran, of the line of Shem. He dwelt in Ur of the Chaldees, and later witness records that his fathers served other gods beyond the River.
His son Haran died before him in Ur, leaving a grandson, Lot. The subject took Abram, Sarai, and Lot, and set out from Ur to go into the land of Canaan.
But when they came as far as Haran, they settled there, and the journey toward Canaan halted in his lifetime.
The subject lived two hundred and five years and died in Haran. Only after his death did Abram go on at the call of God to the land that had been the family's first intent.
The record marks him the root of the covenant line, a man who began the journey yet stopped short of the promise that his son would inherit.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- It is possible to begin a journey toward God and settle short of it.
- The idols of our fathers must be left behind to follow the true God.
- God's call may pass through a family that never fully answered it themselves.
