Why he had held his peace so long: HE WAS YOUNGER, AND DEFERRED TO AGE
The truth he pressed on Job: GOD IS GREATER THAN ANY MAN
The subject was a young man, son of Barachel the Buzite, who had listened in silence while Job and his three friends debated, for they were older than he.
But his anger was kindled: against Job for justifying himself rather than God, and against the three friends for condemning Job without answering him.
When the older men fell silent, the subject spoke, saying that wisdom is not with the aged only, but the breath of the Almighty gives understanding, and that he had waited but could keep silent no longer.
He argued that God is greater than any man, that He speaks in dreams and in suffering to turn a person from pride, that He does no wrong, and that no one can charge the Almighty with injustice.
He turned Job's eyes from his complaint to the majesty of God in the thunder, the clouds, and the coming storm, declaring that the Almighty is great in power and justice and will not violate righteousness. Then out of the whirlwind the LORD Himself answered Job.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- Wisdom is a gift of God's Spirit, not merely a reward of age.
- There is a time to listen and defer, and a time to speak the truth.
- Turning our eyes to God's greatness puts our complaints in their place.
