The number of sons he fathered: TWELVE, BY MILCAH AND BY HIS CONCUBINE REUMAH
His granddaughter through Bethuel: REBEKAH, WHO WOULD MARRY ISAAC
The subject was a son of Terah and brother to Abram, born in Ur of the Chaldeans before the family set out for the land of Canaan. When Terah departed, the subject settled in the region that came to bear his family's name.
He married Milcah, the daughter of his brother Haran, and remained in the east while Abram was called onward into Canaan under the promise of God.
Word came to Abraham that the subject had fathered eight sons by Milcah and four more by his concubine Reumah, twelve in all, from whom sprang the Aramean peoples of the north.
Among his sons was Bethuel, the father of Laban and of Rebekah. Thus from the brother left behind came the wife sought for Isaac, and the mother of Jacob and Esau.
The subject himself walked no covenant road, yet his house was kept near enough to the promise that a bride for the son of promise was drawn from it, and the line preserved.
