The subject was called by YHWH to leave Ur and his father's house for a land he had not seen. He obeyed, and received a promise of land, offspring, and blessing to all nations through his line.
Though he and his wife Sarah were aged and childless, the subject was told his descendants would outnumber the stars. He believed the LORD, and it was credited to him as righteousness.
The subject received the covenant of circumcision as its sign. He was visited by three men near the oaks of Mamre and interceded for the cities of the plain before their judgment.
