What the widows showed Peter, weeping: THE TUNICS AND GARMENTS SHE HAD MADE
The word by which Peter raised her: TABITHA, ARISE
The subject was a disciple at Joppa named Tabitha, which in Greek is Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity, clothing the poor and caring for the widows around her.
In those days she fell sick and died, and they washed her body and laid it in an upper room.
Hearing that Peter was nearby at Lydda, the disciples sent two men urging him to come without delay.
When he arrived, the widows stood about him weeping, showing the tunics and garments the subject had made while she was with them.
Peter put them all outside, knelt down and prayed, then turned to the body and said, Tabitha, arise. She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up; he gave her his hand and raised her, and presented her alive. It became known through all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.
