His hesitation at the command: LORD, I HAVE HEARD OF THIS MAN
The Lord's word concerning Saul: HE IS A CHOSEN INSTRUMENT OF MINE
The subject was a disciple at Damascus, a devout man according to the law and well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there. The Lord called him by name in a vision, and he answered, "Here I am, Lord."
He was told to go to the street called Straight, to the house of Judas, and ask for Saul of Tarsus, who was praying and had seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming to lay hands on him that he might regain his sight.
The subject hesitated, having heard how much evil this man had done to the saints and that he carried authority to bind all who called on the Name. But the Lord said, "Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel."
So the subject went, entered the house, and laying his hands on him said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road has sent me, that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."
Immediately something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he regained his sight and was baptized. By the obedience of the subject the persecutor was received as a brother, and the record marks him a faithful and devout witness.
