Number of his proverbs: THREE THOUSAND SPOKEN
Cause of the kingdom's division: HIS HEART TURNED AFTER OTHER GODS
The subject, son of David and Bathsheba, was established on the throne of Israel. At Gibeon the LORD appeared to him in a dream and offered him whatever he asked; he requested an understanding heart to govern the people.
Pleased that he had not asked for long life or riches, the LORD granted him wisdom beyond any before or after, and riches and honor besides. His discernment was displayed in the judgment of the two women and the living child.
The subject built the temple in Jerusalem over seven years, and the glory of the LORD filled it at its dedication. He spoke three thousand proverbs and composed songs, and rulers came from afar to hear his wisdom.
The queen of Sheba came to test him with hard questions and found the report she had heard to be true; there was no more breath left in her.
In his later years the subject's many foreign wives turned his heart to other gods. For this the kingdom was torn in two after his death, though a remnant was preserved for David's sake.
