Why she was brought to the king: THAT SHE MIGHT CARE FOR HIM AND KEEP HIM WARM, THOUGH HE KNEW HER NOT
Why Adonijah's request for her cost his life: HE ASKED FOR THE KING'S ATTENDANT, AS THOUGH FOR THE THRONE ITSELF
When King David was old and advanced in years and could not keep warm, his servants sought throughout Israel for a young woman to attend him. They found the subject, a beautiful maiden of Shunem, and brought her to the king.
She cared for him and served him in his final days, but the king knew her not. Her role was one of tender attendance to the anointed of the LORD as his life drew to its close.
After David died and Solomon was established on the throne, Adonijah, who had earlier grasped at the kingship, came to Bathsheba and asked that the subject be given to him as wife.
Solomon understood at once that to ask for his father's attendant was to reach again for the throne itself. He took it as a renewed bid for the kingdom, and it cost Adonijah his life.
The subject herself speaks no word and seeks no honor, yet she stands at the hinge of the kingdom's transition, a faithful servant whose quiet presence framed the passing of one reign and the securing of the next.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- Faithful service is honorable even when it is unseen and unsung.
- Ambition can hide itself in a seemingly small request.
- God's purposes turn even on the quiet servants at the margins.
