What he and Levi did to Shechem: KILLED EVERY MALE WITH THE SWORD
Where Joseph kept him as surety: BOUND IN PRISON IN EGYPT
The subject was the second son of Jacob by Leah. When their sister Dinah was defiled by Shechem, the subject and Levi answered with deceit, and while the men of the city lay in pain fell on them and killed every male.
Jacob rebuked them, saying they had made him a stench to the people of the land and endangered his house. Their violence would not be forgotten.
When famine drove the brothers to Egypt, Joseph, still unknown to them, kept the subject bound as a hostage until they should bring Benjamin down, and he was held in prison in the sight of his brothers.
He was released when they returned with Benjamin, and shared in the reconciliation when Joseph revealed himself and wept over them all.
On his deathbed Jacob joined the subject with Levi, cursing their fierce anger and declaring he would divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel. The tribe of Simeon was later absorbed within the territory of Judah.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- Fury that answers wrong with slaughter only multiplies the wrong.
- Sin sown in violence is scattered back across the generations.
- Even a rebuked and diminished life is not cast beyond reconciliation.
