Jacob's word on his fierce anger: CURSED BE THEIR ANGER, FOR IT WAS FIERCE
What the scattering later became: LEVITES SCATTERED THROUGHOUT ISRAEL TO SERVE
The subject was the third son of Jacob by Leah, born in Paddan-aram. His mother named him Levi, hoping her husband would now be joined to her.
When their sister Dinah was defiled at Shechem, the subject and his brother Simeon deceived the men of the city, and while they were in pain from circumcision fell upon them and killed every male with the sword.
Jacob rebuked them for bringing trouble on his house, and on his deathbed he cursed their fierce anger and cruelty, declaring that he would divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel.
Yet what began as a curse of scattering became a place of service. At Sinai the sons of the subject rallied to Moses against the golden calf, and the LORD set the tribe apart to bear the sanctuary and to teach His law.
From the subject came Kohath, Amram, and then Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. His tribe received no land of its own, for the LORD was their inheritance, and they stood before Him in the priesthood forever.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- Unchecked anger, even in a just cause, can curse those who wield it.
- God can turn a scattering meant as judgment into a calling to serve.
- Those who have God as their inheritance need no other portion.
