What she built for the prophet: A SMALL ROOM WITH A BED, TABLE, AND LAMP
Her steady word in the face of death: IT IS WELL
The subject was a well-to-do woman of Shunem who urged the prophet Elisha to eat at her house whenever he passed by, and had a small room built on her roof with a bed, table, stool, and lamp, that the man of God might lodge there.
Wishing to repay her, Elisha promised through his servant Gehazi that she, being childless with an aging husband, would embrace a son the next year; and so she did, at the time he had said.
When the boy had grown, he cried out with a pain in his head one day in the harvest field, was carried to his mother, and died on her lap at noon.
She laid him on the prophet's bed, saddled a donkey, and hurried to Elisha at Carmel, and when asked if all was well, she answered, It is well, holding fast to hope. She would not leave the prophet, and Elisha came, prayed, and stretched himself upon the child until the boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.
The prophet gave her back her living son. Later, warned of a coming famine, she left her land for years, and on her return the king restored all her property and its produce, for the LORD watched over the woman who had honored His servant.
