Their answer to the king's threat: OUR GOD IS ABLE, BUT IF NOT, WE WILL NOT SERVE
What the king saw in the furnace: A FOURTH, LIKE A SON OF THE GODS
The three were young nobles of Judah, companions of Daniel, carried to Babylon and given the names Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. With Daniel they resolved not to defile themselves and were found wiser than all the king's men.
When Nebuchadnezzar set up a golden image and commanded all to bow at the sound of music or be cast into a fiery furnace, the three would not bow down to it.
Summoned and threatened, they answered that their God was able to deliver them from the furnace, but even if He did not, they would not serve the king's gods or worship the image he had set up.
The furnace was heated seven times hotter, and the men who threw them in were slain by its flames; but the three fell bound into the fire unharmed. The king looked and saw four men walking loose, the fourth like a son of the gods.
He called them out, and not a hair was singed, nor the smell of fire upon them. Nebuchadnezzar blessed their God, who had sent His angel to deliver His servants who trusted in Him and yielded their bodies rather than serve any god but their own.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- Faithfulness resolves to obey God whether or not He delivers us.
- The God we trust is able, and even the fire cannot harm at His word.
- We are never alone in the furnace; the Lord Himself walks there with us.
