Her age at Isaac's birth: NINETY YEARS
Meaning of the promised son's name: SHE LAUGHED, AND GOD MADE LAUGHTER
The subject, wife of Abraham, left Ur with him for a land she had not seen. Barren into old age, she was nonetheless promised to become a mother of nations, kings coming from her.
Twice, in Egypt and in Gerar, she was taken into a foreign king's house as Abraham's sister, and twice the LORD intervened to protect her and the promise.
Impatient for an heir, she gave her servant Hagar to Abraham, and Ishmael was born; but this was not the child of promise, and strife followed in the household.
When told she would bear a son in her old age, the subject laughed within herself. Yet the LORD visited her as he had said, and at ninety she bore Isaac, whose name means laughter.
The subject lived a hundred and twenty-seven years and died at Hebron. Abraham buried her in the cave of Machpelah, the first of the patriarchs' tombs. Later witnesses praise her faith and call her a mother of the faithful.
