The warning given as he fled: DO NOT LOOK BACK OR STOP
What became of his wife on the road: A PILLAR OF SALT
The subject went up out of Egypt with Abraham, rich in flocks and herds. When strife arose between their herdsmen, Abraham offered him first choice of the land, and he lifted his eyes and chose the whole well-watered plain of the Jordan.
He pitched his tent toward Sodom and came to dwell in that city, though its men were wicked and sinners against the LORD exceedingly. When kings carried him off in war, Abraham pursued and rescued him and his goods.
Two angels came to Sodom at evening, and the subject took them in and pressed them to lodge with him. The men of the city surrounded the house with wicked demand, and the angels struck them with blindness and told the subject to flee.
In the morning the angels seized his hand, for he lingered, and brought him out, saying to flee for his life and not look back. His wife looked back and became a pillar of salt, but he escaped to Zoar as fire fell on the cities of the plain.
The subject dwelt afterward in a cave with his two daughters, who by his own hand became mothers of Moab and Ammon. Later Scripture calls him a righteous man whose soul was tormented day after day by the lawless deeds he saw.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- The choice that looks most profitable to the eye can cost the soul the most.
- Righteousness is not preserved by settling comfortably among sin.
- Do not look back; cling to the mercy that drags you out of judgment.
