The subject's birth was announced by the angel of the LORD to a barren woman; he was to be a Nazirite from the womb, no razor touching his head, and would begin to deliver Israel from the Philistines.
The Spirit of the LORD came upon the subject in power. He tore a lion apart barehanded, struck down many Philistines, and carried off the gates of Gaza, posts and all, to the top of a hill.
The subject was drawn to Philistine women. Delilah pressed him daily until he disclosed that his strength lay in his unshorn hair, the sign of his vow. She had it cut while he slept, and his strength left him.
The Philistines seized the subject, put out his eyes, and set him to grind in the prison. But the hair of his head began to grow again.
Brought out to entertain a great assembly in the temple of Dagon, the subject prayed once more for strength and pushed apart the pillars. The house fell, and he killed more at his death than in all his life.
