Remarks:

The subject, a woman of Moab, married into an Israelite family sojourning there during a famine. When her husband and father-in-law died, she refused to leave her widowed mother-in-law Naomi.

The subject swore a loyalty oath: where you go I will go, your people shall be my people, and your God my God. She returned with Naomi to Bethlehem, a foreigner among Israel.

Gleaning in the fields to sustain them, the subject found favor with Boaz, a kinsman of her late husband and a man of standing. He noticed her kindness and loyalty and extended protection.

At Naomi's counsel, the subject appealed to Boaz as a kinsman-redeemer. He redeemed the family land and took her as wife, a Moabitess grafted fully into Israel.

The subject bore Obed, the father of Jesse, the father of David. A foreign woman of faith was written into the royal line, and so into the ancestry of the Messiah.
