The name she took in her bitterness: MARA, FOR THE ALMIGHTY HAS DEALT BITTERLY
The women's blessing at the child's birth: A RESTORER OF LIFE AND NOURISHER OF OLD AGE
In the days of the judges a famine drove the subject, her husband Elimelech, and their two sons from Bethlehem to the country of Moab. There Elimelech died, the sons married Moabite women, and after ten years the sons also died, leaving her bereft.
Hearing the LORD had given His people bread, the subject set out to return home and urged her two daughters-in-law to go back to their mothers. Orpah turned back, but Ruth clung to her, vowing that the subject's people and God would be her own.
The subject came again to Bethlehem, and the town was stirred. She told the women to call her no longer Naomi, which is pleasant, but Mara, which is bitter, for she went out full and the LORD had brought her back empty.
When Ruth gleaned in the field of Boaz, the subject recognized him as a near kinsman and a possible redeemer, and blessed the LORD for His kindness. She counseled Ruth how to seek Boaz at the threshing floor and rest until the matter was settled.
Boaz redeemed the field and took Ruth as wife, and she bore Obed. The women said to the subject that the child was a restorer of life to her, and she took him to her bosom. Obed became the father of Jesse, the father of David.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- Bitterness is honest, but it is not the end of the story.
- The God who empties can fill the empty hands again.
- He turns mourning into the joy of a restorer of life.
