What she did at the parting: SHE KISSED NAOMI AND WEPT ALOUD
Where she returned: TO HER PEOPLE AND TO HER GODS
The subject, a woman of Moab, married one of the sons of Naomi and Elimelech during their sojourn in Moab in the days of the judges, when famine had driven them from Bethlehem.
When both her husband and her brother-in-law died, along with Naomi's husband, the three widows were left together, and Naomi resolved to return to Judah where the LORD had visited His people with bread.
The subject set out with Naomi and Ruth, but Naomi urged her daughters-in-law to return each to her mother's house. After weeping and refusing at first, the subject was persuaded, kissed Naomi, and turned back.
She stands in the record as the mirror of Ruth: offered the same road, the same God, the same uncertain future, she chose instead the familiar comfort of her people and her gods.
Scripture does not condemn her, yet it does not follow her either. She returned to Moab and out of the story, while Ruth clung to Naomi and was written into the line of David.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- A tearful farewell is not the same as covenant loyalty.
- The safe road home can lead away from the promise.
- Two are offered the same grace; each must choose to cling.
