What he declared about Jesus three times: I FIND NO GUILT IN THIS MAN
What he did to shift the blame: WASHED HIS HANDS BEFORE THE CROWD
The subject was the Roman governor of Judea before whom Jesus was brought after the council condemned Him. He questioned the Lord and, hearing of a kingdom not of this world, asked, What is truth?
He found no basis for a charge against Jesus and said so plainly, seeking to release Him. He offered the crowd a choice between Jesus and Barabbas, but they demanded Barabbas and cried out for Jesus to be crucified.
He had Jesus scourged and brought Him out, hoping the sight would satisfy them, saying, Behold the man; but the chief priests and crowd only shouted the louder for His death.
Warned by his wife's dream and troubled by the claim that Jesus was the Son of God, the subject nonetheless feared the charge that he was no friend of Caesar, and gave way. He took water and washed his hands, saying he was innocent of this blood.
The Lord told him he would have no authority except what was given from above. So the subject delivered Jesus to be crucified, and set over the cross the title, King of the Jews, though against the priests' protest he would not change what he had written.
