Remarks:

The subject, a fisherman of Galilee, was called from his nets with the promise that he would become a fisher of men. He was named Cephas, the Rock, and became a leader among the twelve.

The subject walked briefly on the water toward Christ before fear overtook him. He confessed Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God, and was told the keys of the kingdom would be given to him.

On the night of the arrest, the subject denied his Lord three times before the rooster crowed, and wept bitterly. After the resurrection he was restored beside the sea and charged three times to feed the flock.

At Pentecost the subject preached to the gathered crowds, and thousands believed. He was given a vision opening the gospel to the Gentiles, and worked signs in the name of Jesus.

The subject was imprisoned and delivered by an angel, wrote letters of encouragement to scattered believers, and by tradition was martyred at Rome, requesting to be crucified head downward.
