What was famous about his stature: HIS IRON BED, NINE CUBITS LONG
The LORD's word to Moses about him: DO NOT FEAR HIM, I HAVE GIVEN HIM TO YOU
The subject was king of Bashan, a giant of the remnant of the Rephaim, remembered for his great iron bedstead, nine cubits long and four wide, kept as a wonder among the Ammonites.
When Israel turned to go up by the road to Bashan, the subject came out against them with all his people to battle at Edrei.
The LORD told Moses not to fear him, for He had given the subject, his people, and his land into Israel's hand, to do to him as had been done to Sihon king of the Amorites.
So Israel struck him down, his sons, and all his people, until there was no survivor, and they took his land.
Sixty fortified cities of Bashan, besides many unwalled towns, fell to Israel, and the region east of the Jordan was given to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half Manasseh; and the LORD's defeat of this giant king was long remembered in Israel's songs of praise.
