What cleansed him: WASHING SEVEN TIMES IN THE JORDAN
His confession afterward: THERE IS NO GOD IN ALL THE EARTH BUT IN ISRAEL
The subject was commander of the army of the king of Aram, a great and honored man, but he was a leper. A captive Israelite girl in his household told of a prophet in Samaria who could heal him.
He came with horses and gifts, but Elisha did not even come out, sending word only to wash seven times in the Jordan. Offended that it was so ordinary, the subject turned away in a rage.
His servants reasoned with him: if the prophet had asked something great, would he not have done it? So he went down and dipped seven times, and his flesh was restored like that of a little child.
The subject returned and confessed that there was no God in all the earth but in Israel, and asked to take home earth on which to worship the LORD alone.
Refusing all payment, Elisha sent him in peace. Centuries later the subject was named by Christ as a Gentile cleansed when many in Israel were not, a sign of mercy reaching the nations.
