What he did with the infant heir: HID AND GUARDED HIM SIX YEARS
The covenant he made at the crowning: THAT THEY SHOULD BE THE LORD'S PEOPLE
The subject was the high priest of Judah in the dark days when Athaliah, having destroyed the royal seed, reigned and promoted the worship of Baal.
With his wife Jehosheba he hid the infant Joash in the house of the LORD for six years, keeping alive the last heir of the line of David when it hung by a thread.
In the seventh year he gathered the Levites and captains, armed them, brought out the boy, crowned him, and proclaimed him king. When Athaliah cried treason, he had her taken out and slain, and the people tore down the house of Baal.
He made a covenant between the LORD, the king, and the people, that they should be the LORD's people, and set the worship of the temple in order under the priests and Levites as David had appointed.
As long as the subject lived he guided the young king in the right way. He died at a hundred and thirty years, and was buried among the kings, because he had done good in Israel toward God and His house.
