How he survived Athaliah's slaughter: HIDDEN SIX YEARS IN THE HOUSE OF GOD
How he repaid Jehoiada's kindness: HAD THE PRIEST'S SON ZECHARIAH STONED
The subject was the infant son of Ahaziah, spared when Athaliah destroyed the royal offspring. His aunt Jehosheba hid him with his nurse in the house of the LORD for six years while the usurping queen reigned.
In the seventh year the priest Jehoiada brought him out, crowned him king at the age of seven, and had Athaliah put to death. The people rejoiced, and the land was quiet.
As long as Jehoiada instructed him, the subject did what was right. He set his heart to repair the house of the LORD, which had fallen into disrepair, gathering money in a chest and paying the workmen faithfully.
But after Jehoiada died, the subject listened to the princes of Judah, abandoned the house of the LORD, and served idols. When Zechariah, the priest's own son, rebuked him by the Spirit, the subject had him stoned in the temple court, forgetting the kindness of his father.
The dying prophet said, May the LORD see and avenge. Within a year a small Aramean force wounded the subject, and his own servants conspired and killed him on his bed, so that he was not buried among the kings.
