What Athaliah did when Ahaziah died: SHE AROSE AND DESTROYED ALL THE ROYAL FAMILY
Where she hid the child for six years: IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD, WHILE ATHALIAH REIGNED
When Ahaziah king of Judah was slain, his mother Athaliah rose up and destroyed all the royal offspring, seizing the throne for herself. In that hour the line of David hung by a thread.
But the subject, a daughter of King Joram and sister of Ahaziah, wife of Jehoiada the priest, took Joash the infant son of Ahaziah from among the king's sons who were about to be killed.
She stole him away with his nurse into a bedchamber, and then hid him in the house of the LORD, out of the reach of the murderous queen.
For six years the child was hidden in the temple under her care and her husband's, while Athaliah reigned over the land, never knowing that an heir of David still lived.
In the seventh year Jehoiada brought the boy out, crowned him, and Athaliah was put to death. The subject's courage had preserved the royal line, the lamp of David from which, in the fullness of time, the Messiah would come.
