The qualification for the office: ONE WHO ACCOMPANIED US THE WHOLE TIME
How the choice was finally made: THEY PRAYED, THEN CAST LOTS
After the ascension, Peter stood among the believers, about a hundred and twenty in all, and spoke of the place left empty by Judas, who had fallen away and come to his end.
He said that one must be chosen to take the office and become a witness with them of the resurrection, from among the men who had accompanied them the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among them, from the baptism of John to the day He was taken up.
Two were put forward: Joseph called Barsabbas, also known as Justus, and the subject.
The believers prayed, asking the Lord who knows all hearts to show which of the two He had chosen to take this ministry and apostleship.
They cast lots, and the lot fell on the subject, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. Though Scripture records little more of him, he stood among the Twelve as a witness of the risen Christ.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- Faithful, unnoticed presence over years can prepare us for great calling.
- The church seeks God's choice through prayer, not merely its own preference.
- To bear witness to the resurrection is the heart of the apostolic task.
