The Lord's gentle reproof: ONE THING IS NECESSARY
Her confession before the tomb: YOU ARE THE CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD
The subject welcomed the Lord into her house at Bethany. While her sister Mary sat at His feet and listened, she was distracted with much serving, and asked the Lord to bid her sister help.
The Lord answered her with tenderness: "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken from her."
When her brother Lazarus fell sick and died, the subject went out to meet the Lord and said that if He had been there her brother would not have died; yet even now, she knew, God would grant whatever He asked.
The Lord said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live." She answered with the great confession: "Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world."
She saw her brother called forth alive from the tomb, and later served again at the supper given for the Lord in Bethany. The record holds her as one who loved, served, and confessed the Christ.
