Whom he foretold would come first: ELIJAH THE PROPHET
What would rise with healing: THE SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
The subject, whose name means my messenger, brought the LORD's word to a people grown cynical after the return, questioning God's love and wearying him with faithless words.
He rebuked the priests for offering blemished sacrifices, the people for robbing God in tithes, and the men for dealing faithlessly with the wives of their youth.
He announced that the LORD would send his messenger to prepare the way before him, and that the Lord they sought would suddenly come to his temple, a refiner and purifier.
For those who feared the LORD, he promised that the sun of righteousness would rise with healing in its wings, and a book of remembrance was written of them.
He closed the prophetic record with a promise that the LORD would send Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day, to turn the hearts of fathers and children, a word taken up centuries later in John the Baptist.
