What the Lord did as Paul spoke: OPENED HER HEART TO PAY ATTENTION
Her plea after she was baptized: COME TO MY HOUSE AND STAY
The subject was a dealer in purple cloth from Thyatira, dwelling at Philippi, a worshiper of God. On the Sabbath Paul and his companions went outside the gate to a riverside where prayer was made, and sat and spoke to the women gathered there.
As she listened, the Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what Paul said. She and her household were baptized, the firstfruits of the gospel in Europe.
She urged the missionaries, saying, If you have judged me faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay; and she prevailed upon them to accept her hospitality.
Her home became a gathering place for the young church. After Paul and Silas were freed from prison, they came to her house and encouraged the brothers before departing.
The record marks her as a woman of means and devotion whose open heart and open home became a foundation for the church at Philippi, the congregation Paul would later call his joy and crown.
