What he took to hand Jesus over: THIRTY PIECES OF SILVER
His cry when he saw the outcome: I HAVE SINNED, BETRAYING INNOCENT BLOOD
The subject was one of the twelve apostles, chosen and sent out with the rest, entrusted with the money bag; yet he was a thief who helped himself to what was put in it.
When a woman anointed Jesus with costly ointment, the subject objected under a show of care for the poor, but he cared nothing for them.
He went to the chief priests and agreed to hand Jesus over for thirty pieces of silver, watching for a chance to do it away from the crowds.
At the Passover supper Jesus said one of them would betray Him, and after the morsel was given, Satan entered the subject, and he went out into the night. He came to Gethsemane leading a band, and betrayed the Son of Man with a kiss.
When he saw that Jesus was condemned, the subject was seized with remorse, returned the silver, confessing he had betrayed innocent blood, and threw it down in the temple. But his was the sorrow of despair, not repentance, and he went and hanged himself, and another was chosen to take his place among the Twelve.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- One can be near to Christ in name yet keep a heart ruled by greed.
- Small unchecked sins, like theft, open the door to great betrayal.
- Remorse without true repentance leads only to despair, not to grace.
