The subject, favored son of Jacob, received dreams of sheaves and stars bowing before him. His brothers, envious, sold him into Egypt, where he served in the household of Potiphar.

Falsely accused, the subject was imprisoned, yet interpreted the dreams of fellow prisoners. Summoned before Pharaoh, he interpreted a dream of seven years of plenty followed by seven of famine, and proposed a plan of storage.

The subject was set over all Egypt as vizier. When famine drove his brothers to Egypt for grain, he tested and then revealed himself to them, weeping, and provided for the covenant family in Goshen.

The subject declared that what they intended for evil, God intended for good, to preserve many lives. He was reconciled to his father Jacob and his brothers.

Before his death the subject made the sons of Israel swear to carry his bones out of Egypt to the promised land. Generations later, his bones were carried up at the Exodus.
