Who her husband was: CHUZA, THE MANAGER OF HEROD ANTIPAS'S HOUSEHOLD
What the men thought of the women's report: THEIR WORDS SEEMED TO THEM AN IDLE TALE
The subject was the wife of Chuza, the steward who managed the household of Herod Antipas. A woman of standing, she had been healed by Jesus of some infirmity, and she left the comfort of the court to follow Him.
Luke names her among the women who accompanied Jesus and the Twelve as they went through the towns and villages proclaiming the kingdom of God. She, with Mary Magdalene, Susanna, and many others, provided for them out of their own means.
That a woman connected to Herod's house should support a Galilean preacher was no small thing, for it was Herod who had beheaded John and who sought to see Jesus. Her devotion carried real cost and risk.
In the dawn of the first day of the week, the subject was among the women who came to the tomb with spices and found the stone rolled away and the body gone. Angels declared that He had risen, as He had said.
The subject, Mary Magdalene, and the others returned and told these things to the eleven, but their words seemed an idle tale and were not believed. Yet she stands in the record as an eyewitness of the empty tomb and a faithful provider for the Lord's work.
