What he did to secure his throne: HE KILLED ALL HIS BROTHERS WITH THE SWORD
The word Elijah sent him in writing: A LINGERING DISEASE, UNTIL YOUR BOWELS COME OUT
The subject succeeded his father Jehoshaphat as king of Judah. But he had married a daughter of Ahab and Jezebel, and he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, doing evil in the sight of the LORD.
When he was established on the throne, he killed all his brothers with the sword, along with some of the princes of Israel, wiping out rivals to secure his crown.
He built high places and led Judah into idolatry. In his days Edom revolted from Judah's rule, and Libnah revolted as well, for he had forsaken the LORD, the God of his fathers.
A letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, declaring that because he had walked in the way of the house of Ahab and murdered his better brothers, a great plague would strike his people and his household, and he himself would suffer a lingering disease of the bowels.
The Philistines and Arabians plundered his house and carried off his sons and wives, and then the LORD struck him with an incurable disease. After two years his bowels came out, and he died in great agony. He departed with no one's regret, and was not buried in the tombs of the kings.
