What Jesus told him when the news of death came: DO NOT FEAR, ONLY BELIEVE
The word Jesus spoke to the dead girl: TALITHA CUMI, LITTLE GIRL, ARISE
The subject was a ruler of the synagogue whose only daughter, about twelve years old, was dying. When Jesus returned across the sea, he came and fell at His feet, begging Him to come and lay hands on her that she might live.
Jesus went with him, pressed by the crowds, and on the way a woman who had suffered a flow of blood for twelve years was healed by touching His garment, and this delay must have tried the father's heart.
While He still spoke, word came from the house that the girl had died, and that the subject need not trouble the Teacher any longer.
But Jesus said to him, Do not fear, only believe, and took Peter, James, and John, and came to the house where mourners wept and wailed. He said the child was not dead but sleeping, and they laughed at Him.
He put them all out, took the parents and His three disciples, went in to the girl, took her by the hand, and said, Little girl, arise. Her spirit returned, she got up at once and walked, and He told them to give her something to eat, and charged them to tell no one.
