Provision at the binding: GOD WILL PROVIDE THE LAMB
The stolen blessing: GIVEN TO THE YOUNGER SON
The subject was born to Abraham and Sarah in their old age, the child of promise, when Sarah laughed at the word that she would bear a son. He was named Isaac, meaning laughter, and circumcised on the eighth day.
God tested Abraham, commanding him to offer the subject on a mountain in Moriah. The subject carried the wood, asked where the lamb was, and was bound upon the altar; a ram caught in a thicket was provided in his place.
A wife was sought for the subject from his father's kindred, and Rebekah was brought from afar. He loved her, and she was a comfort to him after his mother's death.
During famine the subject sojourned in Gerar, prospered, and reopened the wells his father had dug that the Philistines had stopped. The LORD appeared to him at Beersheba and renewed the covenant promise.
Grown old and dim of sight, the subject intended the blessing for Esau, but Jacob obtained it by his mother's design. The subject died at a great age and was buried by his sons beside Abraham.
