Remarks:

The subject, son of the faithless Ahaz, did what was right in the eyes of the LORD. He removed the high places, broke the idols, and cleansed and reopened the temple, keeping a great Passover.

When Sennacherib of Assyria invaded and his envoy mocked the LORD, the subject took the threatening letter into the temple and spread it before the LORD, praying for deliverance.

Through the prophet Isaiah the LORD answered, and that night the angel of the LORD struck the Assyrian camp; Sennacherib withdrew and was later killed in his own land.

The subject fell mortally ill and wept before the LORD. Fifteen years were added to his life, and the sign given was the shadow on the steps turning back ten steps.

He secured the city's water by cutting a tunnel to the pool of Siloam. Later, in pride, he showed his treasures to envoys of Babylon and was warned that Babylon would one day carry it all away.
