Terms of her vow: I WILL GIVE HIM TO THE LORD ALL HIS DAYS
Theme of her song: THE LORD RAISES THE POOR FROM THE DUST
The subject, barren and provoked by her husband's other wife, wept before the LORD at the tabernacle in Shiloh, praying so fervently in silence that the priest Eli thought her drunk.
She vowed that if the LORD gave her a son, she would give him to the LORD all the days of his life. Eli blessed her, and she went away no longer downcast.
The LORD remembered her, and she bore a son and named him Samuel, saying she had asked him of the LORD.
When the child was weaned, the subject brought him to Shiloh and gave him to Eli for the service of the LORD, keeping her vow, and each year she brought him a little robe.
The subject sang a song exalting the LORD who kills and makes alive, raises the poor from the dust, and will give strength to his king and exalt his anointed, words echoed long after in the Magnificat.
