His counsel when David hid in the cave: DO NOT REMAIN, GO INTO THE LAND OF JUDAH
The three judgments he set before David: FAMINE, FLIGHT FROM FOES, OR PLAGUE
The subject was a prophet and seer who accompanied David through his years of hardship. When David hid in the cave of Adullam, the subject brought him the word of the LORD to leave and go into the land of Judah.
He served as the king's seer through his reign, one of those who recorded the acts of David from first to last.
When David sinned by numbering the fighting men of Israel out of pride, the LORD sent the subject to him with a choice of three judgments: three years of famine, three months of fleeing before his enemies, or three days of plague.
David answered that he was in great distress, but let him fall into the hand of the LORD, whose mercy is great, rather than into the hand of man; so a plague came upon Israel.
The subject then directed David to raise an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunah, where David offered sacrifice, the plague was stayed, and the place became the site where the temple would later be built.
