Remarks:

The subject was formed by God from the side of the man, that he should not be alone, and was brought to him as a helper fit for him. The man called her Woman, for she was taken out of Man.

The serpent, more crafty than any beast, deceived her, saying she would not surely die but would be like God. She saw that the tree was good for food and a delight to the eyes, and took and ate, and gave to her husband.

Their eyes were opened and they knew they were naked. Called to account, the subject answered that the serpent had deceived her.

In the judgment that followed, God nonetheless gave the first promise of redemption: the seed of the woman would bruise the serpent's head. The man named her Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

Driven from the garden, she bore Cain and Abel and then Seth, through whose line the promise was carried; every living person descends from her.
