First promise of a redeemer: THE SEED SHALL BRUISE THE SERPENT
The subject was formed by the LORD from the dust of the ground, and God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. He was placed in a garden in Eden to work it and keep it.
The subject named every living creature the LORD brought before him. No suitable helper being found among them, God caused a deep sleep to fall on him and formed a woman from his side; the two became one flesh.
Given liberty of the whole garden but for one tree, the subject and the woman ate of it at the serpent's prompting. Their eyes were opened, they knew they were naked, and they hid from the presence of the LORD.
The subject was called to account. The ground was cursed for his sake, toil and death entered, and he was driven from the garden. Yet a promise was given that the woman's seed would one day crush the serpent.
The subject named his wife Eve, the mother of all living, fathered sons and daughters, and lived nine hundred and thirty years before returning to the dust. Later witnesses name him the first Adam, contrasted with the last.
