What his blood still does: IT CRIES OUT FROM THE GROUND
The subject, second son of Adam and Eve, kept flocks while his brother Cain worked the ground. In the course of time each brought an offering to the LORD.
The subject brought the firstborn of his flock and their fat portions. The LORD looked with favor on the subject and his offering, but not on Cain's, and Cain's face fell.
The LORD warned Cain that sin was crouching at the door and must be mastered. But Cain rose up against his brother in the field and killed him.
When the LORD asked where his brother was, Cain denied knowledge. The LORD answered that the voice of the subject's blood was crying out from the ground.
Later witnesses name the subject righteous, the first to die for his faith, and say that by it he still speaks; his blood is contrasted with a better word than that of the first murder.
