What he cried at the den at dawn: O DANIEL, HAS YOUR GOD BEEN ABLE TO DELIVER YOU?
The decree he sent through the realm: IN ALL MY DOMINION LET MEN TREMBLE BEFORE THE GOD OF DANIEL
The subject received the kingdom when Babylon fell, and he set over the realm satraps and three high officials, of whom Daniel was chief, for an excellent spirit was in him.
Because the subject planned to set Daniel over the whole kingdom, the other officials sought to trap him. Finding no fault, they persuaded the king to sign an irrevocable decree that anyone praying to any god or man but the king for thirty days be cast to the lions.
When Daniel was found praying to his God as before, the subject was greatly distressed and labored until sundown to deliver him. But the law of the Medes and Persians could not be changed, and he was forced to cast Daniel into the den, saying may your God whom you serve deliver you.
The king spent the night fasting, without music or sleep, and at first light hurried to the den, crying out to know if Daniel's God had saved him. Daniel answered that God had shut the lions' mouths, for he was found blameless.
Overjoyed, the subject drew Daniel out unharmed, cast his accusers to the lions in his place, and decreed that in all his dominion men should tremble before the living God of Daniel, whose kingdom shall not be destroyed.
