What he did with the temple vessels: DRANK WINE AND PRAISED IDOLS FROM THEM
The writing Daniel read on the wall: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN
The subject made a great feast for a thousand of his lords, and while he drank he called for the gold and silver vessels his predecessor had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, that he and his company might drink from them.
As they drank and praised the gods of gold and silver, the fingers of a man's hand appeared and wrote upon the plaster of the wall. The king's face went pale, and his knees knocked together in terror.
None of his wise men could read the writing. At the queen's word Daniel was brought, who refused the king's rewards and rebuked him: he had not humbled his heart though he knew how God had humbled his predecessor.
Daniel read the words: Mene, God has numbered your kingdom and brought it to an end; Tekel, you have been weighed and found wanting; Peres, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.
That very night the subject, king of the Chaldeans, was slain, and Darius the Mede received the kingdom. Babylon fell in a single night, as the word had said.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- To profane what is holy invites swift and certain judgment.
- Knowing how God humbled another is no excuse if we will not humble ourselves.
- A life can be weighed in the balance and found wanting in a single night.
