Remarks:

The subject, a Levite from Cyprus, was surnamed Barnabas, son of encouragement, by the apostles. He sold a field he owned and laid the proceeds at the apostles' feet for the poor.

When the converted Saul was feared by the disciples, the subject took him and brought him to the apostles, vouching for how the Lord had appeared to him and how boldly he had preached.

Sent to the growing church at Antioch, the subject, a good man full of the Holy Spirit and of faith, rejoiced at the grace of God there and went to Tarsus to bring Saul to help teach.

Set apart by the Spirit, the subject and Saul were sent out on the first missionary journey, carrying the gospel through Cyprus and Asia Minor, and stood for the Gentiles at the council in Jerusalem.

After a sharp disagreement over John Mark, the subject took Mark and sailed for Cyprus to continue the work. By tradition he was martyred there.
